22K Gold Jewelry in Houston
22 karat gold is 91.6% pure, nearly twice the gold content of the 14K jewelry sold in most American stores. How to tell real 22K
- Hallmark. Genuine 22K is stamped 916, 22K or 22KT. Ask to see it.
- Colour. 22K has a deep, saturated yellow. 14K looks pale and slightly brassy beside it. Once you have seen them next to each other you cannot unsee it.
- Weight. Gold is dense. A 22K piece feels heavier than a plated or lower-karat piece of the same size.
- A jeweler who will weigh it in front of you. We will. Any shop that will not, walk out.
22K vs 18K vs 14K
22K (91.6% gold) — Richest colour, highest gold content, the traditional choice for bridal and heirloom pieces. Softer, so best for pieces that are not taking daily abuse.
18K (75% gold) — A middle ground. Common for diamond settings, where the metal needs to hold stones securely.
14K (58.3% gold) — Hardest and most scratch-resistant, and the American default. Noticeably paler. Good for a ring worn every single day.
